The Youth of the Year program is at the heart of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Character & Leadership Component. The Youth of the Year is a teen who can be held up as a role model to all other Club youth.
The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Holyoke is pleased to recognize Angel Soto as the 2008 Youth of the Year. Angel has been involved with the Club for six years. He is a serious student who has long known that he wanted to go to college. This dream was reinforced at the Club when he was helped with his homework by Club tutors who were college students. In order to make sure that he realized his dream, Angel enrolled in Upward Bound, the college preparation program. He chose to do his community service at the Club, working as a homework tutor to younger Club youth. Angel has also done service for the Club and for the community by volunteering in the Keystone Club, the Club’s teen leadership group. In this capacity, he has participated in the Keystone Club’s annual fundraiser for Project Bread – the Walk for Hunger.
Angel is a strong swimmer and trained a few years ago to be a lifeguard for the Club. He is a role model to his younger sister and a great support to his mother and the rest of his family. With his commitment to learning and growing and supporting others, Angel represents what we at the Club value most. Congratulations to Angel Soto!
